May 15, 2026: Launching a Blog

Bookish Meme Stash — Open Book Blog Hop #119 | by K. Williams | Medium

This was how I felt when launching a blog (not knowing what to write, but talking about the weather seems a great start) and starting summer courses (just being dramatic here) after a wonderful but short break from the spring semester. However, as I return to reading academic papers, they inspire me to dig deeper into everyday concepts, such as social media and blogging.

Blogging?!

Welcome to my blog, where I intend to document and reflect on what I learn throughout this college course. One of the course requirements is to start a blog.

Maybe this is a presumptuous opinion, but blogs feel somewhat niche today. With platforms like TikTok dominating online culture, long-form articles and blog posts can seem old-fashioned. Perhaps that is because I mostly use YouTube and Instagram, platforms that rely heavily on visual content such as photos, short videos, and long-form videos rather than text-based websites that users must actively seek out.

YouTube and Instagram also make interaction incredibly immediate and effortless. Users can instantly like, repost, comment, share, or continue scrolling through recommended content, all just a swipe away. Blogs, in contrast, seem slower and more intentional.

Of course, this perspective comes from someone with limited experience reading blogs. Still, I can absolutely understand their appeal. Blogs can function as journals, archives of ideas, or spaces where people share passions such as travel, recipes, hobbies, or personal reflections while connecting with others who have similar interests.

To get familiar with blogs and find inspiration, I have been browsing travel and food blogs. I learned that subscriptions/newsletters go through emails, and there are various blog designs, but they all look like very professional websites. I especially likes these two:

The design is very interactive, and there are lots of authentic recipes from all around the world. So cool!

Great pictures and helpful tips at a glance when traveling to certain countries.
